Energy

energy is fundamental to our existence and healing potential.

Healing can take many forms but at its core, it comes down to a willingness to ‘be’ with all parts of ourselves - both the tangible and intangible.

Energy

What do we mean when we say “Energy”

For some people, the word energy brings to mind incense and crystals. For others, it sparks curiosity… or skepticism.

Both are welcome here.

Because whether or not we use the word, all of us experience energy in our everyday lives:

  • the heaviness of walking into a tense room

  • the comfort of sitting with someone calming

  • the sense of “something’s off” before you have words for it

  • the way your body tightens in stress and softens in safety

This is all energy— subtle, but very real.

Different traditions have different names for this life force (“Qi,” “Prana,” “Mana”), but the idea is universal:

There is something that animates us, connects us, and moves through us.

You don’t have to believe in anything mystical to understand that. Your nervous system feels it. Your intuition feels it. Your body feels it.

What does this have to do with birth?

Birth is one of the most primal energetic experiences we have as humans. It isn’t just physical— it’s emotional, psychological, ancestral, and deeply intuitive. Even if we don’t talk about “energy,” we feel its shifts:

  • adrenaline rising

  • the atmosphere of the room changing

  • tension or ease moving through the body

  • the instinct to go inward

And because I work in the perinatal space, people often ask how energy relates to birth.

But today, I want to zoom out— and share how energy work became part of my life, long before I taught HypnoBirthing.

So…What is energy, really?

To me, energy is simply the ability to create movement or change— in the environment, in the mind, or in the body.

We don’t need to see electricity to know it exists.
We don’t need to understand the physics of gravity to experience its pull.
And we don’t need a perfect definition of energy to notice its effects.

Your “energy body”— sometimes called the subtle body — is the emotional and intuitive layer of your experience. It’s where tension, stress, memories, and even unspoken feelings can settle.

This is also why:

  • your stomach tightens when something isn’t right

  • your chest opens around someone safe

  • your muscles hold emotions you haven’t processed

  • trauma shows up long after the event is over

The subconscious mind and the energy system are constantly exchanging information like a feedback loop. And energy healing simply works with that loop.

So what is Energy Healing?

At its simplest:

Energy healing is a practice that helps release what’s stagnant and restore flow where it has been blocked.

Everything that happens to us leaves an imprint emotionally, physically, mentally, and energetically. During an energy healing session, I am trained to tap into those imprints to facilitate change in your system.

The idea behind energy healing is that when our energy is balanced and flowing freely, we generally feel good, clear, more grounded and connected, and less easily overwhelmed. When it’s stuck, we can feel heavy, anxious, emotionally “clogged”, tense, disconnected from ourselves.

Some traditions believe all illness has a spiritual or energetic root. Others see energy work as complementary— supporting the things that conventional medicine can’t always reach. You don’t need to subscribe to any particular worldview to benefit. You just need to be open to experiencing yourself in a different way.

My Journey into Energy Work (the short version)

I’ll be honest: I didn’t grow up meditating. I didn’t do yoga. I didn’t know what connecting the mind and body meant.

I was firmly grounded in research and logic after having seven years of academic training — and I was pretty disconnected from my body.

Energy work found me when I was doing trauma recovery. A psychologist suggested exploring some gentle body-based approaches like Reiki and somatic work— because my chronic pain had an emotional component woven into it. I had no idea what any of that meant.

But I was desperate to feel better. And I was well trained by society to listen to ‘the experts’ and do as I was told.

So I stayed curious.

And slowly, things began to shift.

Energy work became the missing link in my healing and helped me really transform my life— not because it replaced therapy or medical care, but because it helped all the pieces speak to each other. It taught me how to slow down, listen inward, and actually feel myself again.

That was the beginning.

Becoming and Energy Worker

Eventually, I trained at the New Earth Energy School with Ruth Lera, a Yukon-based meditation teacher and healer. There, I learned how to hone my intuition and attune to the subtle layers of someone’s else’s system and support the changes they were already ready to make.

And I learned something important:

I don’t heal people.
People heal themselves.
My job is to help create the conditions where that healing can unfold.

That’s why I call myself an energy worker, not a healer.

So How Do Sessions Actually Work?

Sessions are gentle, intuitive, and grounded.

Whether in-person or virtual, I work with the energetic imprints in your system— the places your body, emotions, or subconscious are signaling for support.

Some people describe feeling:

  • warmth

  • settling

  • release

  • clarity

  • emotional softening

  • physical ease

Others experience it more subtly— a quiet shift, a change in perspective, or a sense of “lightness” afterward. There’s no performance, no pressure, no expectation to feel a certain way.

Instead of following a prescribed technique, I follow what your system leads me toward, sharing images, impressions, or sensations that arise. It’s like finding a loose thread in a woven blanket— you gently track it back through the tangles until you reach the spot where repair can happen.

Your agency is always central. Your intention and openness shape the work, and I encourage you to take what resonates and leave the rest. You remain fully in control, and your consent guides every step. I will never try to move something your system isn’t ready for— this is where deep listening becomes essential. And I hold my role as a facilitator and guide for your system with deep care and responsibility.

Who Is This For?

Anyone.

You don’t need to be on a perinatal journey to benefit. This work supports:

  • emotional processing

  • deep stress

  • burnout

  • transitions

  • grief

  • anxiety

  • physical tension

  • feeling disconnected

  • wanting to return to yourself

~

healing is not a finish line but a continuous path of awareness, intention, and personal evolution.

My own journey into energy work began with lived experience, and I’ve learned that when we stay open to the shifts that new experiences invite — even the subtle ones — something powerful can unfold.

In sharing a piece of my story, I hope it sparks a bit of curiosity in you too… toward your own inner landscape, your own questions, and the transformative healing potential that exists within us all.
